Courses and Workshops

Community Outreach Services offers various courses and workshops throughout the year.

Community Helpers Training

Contact: Young Adult Outreach Worker at 780-852-6541
The Community Helpers program aims to promote mental wellbeing and prevent suicide among youth ages 12-30 by supporting the natural helpers in our community. Natural helpers are good listeners that others often turn to when they're struggling.

This one-day workshop focuses on building participants' listening and communication skills so that they are better able to offer help and referral to friends, family and co-workers. Topics include: mental health, suicide, knowing when others need help, resources in Jasper and making referrals. The workshop centres around a six-step process for guiding otherwise difficult conversations. The course is perfect for workplace training -- supervisory training in particular. It's beneficial to all ages as the skills can be applied immediately at home, among friends or in the workplace. Community Helpers is offered for high school-age children as well as in the community for adults.
