What is the Jasper Local Immigration Partnership?
The JLIP is part of a Canada wide program to support newcomers in local communities. The JLIP is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Our goal is to make Jasper a welcoming place for all newcomers. Regardless of where they’re from or their immigration status. We work for systemic and cultural change to help newcomers thrive.
Members of the JLIP are from all walks of life, and include representatives from community organizations and agencies, businesses, individuals, government and more.

JLIP Strategy
The Jasper Immigration Coalition developed a strategic plan to support newcomers coming to Jasper. This plan is the Jasper Settlement Strategy. We are currently reviewing and updating our Settlement Strategy to reflect the challenges newcomers are facing after the pandemic.
The Strategy at a Glance
The strategy identified eight areas where work can be done to promote successful settlement in Jasper:
- Employment
- Housing
- Education, Training and Entrepreneurship
- Language
- Access to Services
- Welcoming and Inclusion
- Health and Wellness
- Media Representation
The strategy identified specific goals for the different areas of focus. The strategy also includes actions community members, organizations and service providers can take to reach the identified goals.
How do we come up with the Strategy?
- We interview and survey newcomers to understand their challenges
- We do research to understand our community needs and priorities
- We identify goals and areas of focus based on results
- We develop strategies to meet our goals
What happens next?
The JLIP meets, and together we come up with ways to put the strategy into action. Some of the ways we’ve implemented the Strategy:
- Community partnerships and collaboration
- Programming and initiatives
- Promoting policy and process change within organizations
